Crown & Bridges
Crowns protect the underlying biological tooth structure from further breaking down. A crown is recommended when the tooth’s structure has been compromised. Crowns are also often recommended following root canal treatment.
The crown process begins by performing some preparation of the tooth and taking a mould. We then send this to our laboratory of choice. We then carefully match the ceramic material and cement to the natural shade of your teeth, ensuring the crown reflects light and performs the same as your surrounding teeth. It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for crowns to be created. The crown is then cemented securely to your prepared tooth and the process is complete.
To keep your crown in the best condition possible, ensure you’re attending our clinic for your regular check-up and cleans. It’s important that the margins surrounding your crown as well as your gums are thoroughly cleaned to avoid trapping food. By adopting good oral hygiene habits, you can aid in ensuring your crown will have good longevity.
Root Canal
Also referred to as endodontic therapy, root canal treatment is performed when the nerve or pulp of the tooth becomes infected as a result of advanced dental decay, trauma, or injury. Root canal treatment is often completed over a course of two to three appointments.
The initial appointment consists of removing the dying nerve and controlling discomfort/pain levels. Medicinal materials are then placed in the canal to avoid infection.
During the second appointment, the canals are flushed, and an assessment is made on the status of the medication and how effectively it has treated the infection. More medication may need to be applied at this stage.
Lastly, a crown is placed to ensure that the tooth remains strong and that the appearance is correct.
Dental Implants
Missing teeth may leave you wondering about replacements. One of the best and most popular solutions to a missing tooth is a dental implant. Implants are an alternative form of prosthetic replacement to dentures or bridges and are a long-term solution when oral hygiene habits are performed regularly. Implants have an entirely natural appearance.
Implants are composed of a titanium screw and post that is then completed with a crown, bridge or denture depending on your needs. The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone where it replaces the natural tooth root. After a healing process, the implant attaches to the bone, functioning much like a regular root.
